While I have been researching my father’s part in WW II, I often find myself falling down rabbit holes, rather like Alice in Wonderland –

And so it was that I had stumbled upon a Thread on the WW2Talk website entitled The Essex Regiment 1929-1950 History and, after a short while, I came across some pages that had been attached to Post #106 being an “Extract from Saragarhi Battalion: Ashes to Glory by Col Kanwaljit Singh, Maj H S Ahluwalia (pp. 102-111)”
How lucky was that. And it turns out to be the very same pages that I have managed to obtain from Colonel F.T. Birdwoods book on “The Sikh Regiment – In the Second World War“. And the book appears to acknowledge the fact in its Preface.
